Behavior ConsuLtations

For problems beyond basic obedience training and manners, such as separation anxiety, leash reactivity, housetraining issues in adult dogs, resource guarding, fear and aggression the best route is a behavior consultation.  A group manners class is not an effective format for addressing these types of challenges. A behavior consult will delve in to determine what is motivating the problem behavior and how best to change it.  If necessary, a customized training plan will be developed to give you the skills and knowledge required to be successful in attaining your specific goals.

How does a consult work?

After booking an initial consult, you will be asked to complete a comprehensive behavior history.  This step is critical to getting a complete picture of the problem(s) so that any training plan is appropriate and achievable.  Then, after the behavior history is received and reviewed, we will meet with you and your dog and observe your dog's behavior.  We will discuss your dog’s current skills and your goals for your dog’s behavior.  We will then discuss a training plan for turning these goals into realities and schedule the training sessions that we will need.

The number of recommended training sessions depends on variables, including but not limited to your dog’s current level of training or the seriousness of his or her behavior problems.

Can I hire ODT to do the training for me?

Yes.  In most cases, we can work one-on-one with your dog. Have a professional jump start the training process and then teach you how to maintain the skills your dog has learned!  Contact us to discuss.

I wanted to tell you how wonderful your brief bit of training was for Jessie. She has just turned into a different dog. She is nice on the leash, she is a more tractable dog, more happy and affectionate. I just wanted to let you know how very helpful your training was.
